But What is St Patrick’ s day all about ?
Well St. Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland.
St Patrick whose real name was Maewyn was born in AD 385 in Wales and he held the position of of bishop of Ireland .
When he was 16 he was sold into slavery by a gang that raided his village.
After six year of slavery he managed to escape and went to Gaul where he studied in the monastery under St. Germain, bishop of Auxerre for a period of twelve years.
Patrick believed that his calling was to convert pagans to Christianity.
Patrick was arrested several time by the Celtic Druids , who were upset by the fact that he was converting pagans
Whilst travelling throughout Ireland he establishing monasteries across the land and also set up schools and churches .
His mission in Ireland lasted for thirty years. After that time, Patrick retired to County Down. He died on March 17 in AD 461.
One Irish Folklore includes the belief that Patrick raised people from the dead. He also is said to have given a sermon from a hilltop that drove all the snakes from Ireland.
The lucky shamrock comes from an Irish story of how Patrick used the three-leafed shamrock to to represent how the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit could all exist as separate Pieces of the one single entity.
His followers adopted the custom of wearing a shamrock on his feast day.
So there you have it the story of St Patrick .
Be Lucky .
